Local blood centers need donations

LifeShare Blood Centers are appealing to people to help replenish community blood supplies after a seasonal surge in vehicle accidents.

People with trauma or vehicle accident injuries can use up to 50 units of blood, according to Libby Murphy, LifeShare spokeswoman. A unit of blood is equal to about a pint.

Blood donors must be at least 17 years old and weigh at least 110 pounds. They should feel well and be in good general health. Potential donors receive a mini-physical.

  • For more information, call LifeShare at (318) 673-1471 or (318) 742-4636.
