EVENT ALERT: The Krewe of Sobek Kicks Off Mardi Gras 2008

It's hard to believe but it's almost time for Mardi Gras! Fat Tuesday falls on February 24th this year, but Krewes in the SBC are already getting in the Mardi Gras spirit:

The Krewe of Sobek starts it's festivities this Friday, January 9th, with its Bal (yes I spelled that correctly lol). Sobek will host its Bal at Riverview Hall, with the event starting at 7 pm. The event will feature a cash bar and New Orleans-style buffet. This year's theme is "Fairy Tales". Tickets are $50. Attire is Black Tie. For more information, call (318) 423-7527.

Sobek will continue its Mardi Gras events the next day, Saturday, January 10th, with its annual parade. Participants include MacSpeed Motorsports, Top Teens of America, Alpha Phi Alpha and various bands (including those from Huntington and Woodlawn High School).

Chief Togbe Asogli II of the Ewe Tribe of Asogli Traditional Council, Volta Region, Ghana West Africa will be the Parade Marshal.

The parade begins at the Louisiana Fairgrounds to Querbes Street, cross Greenwood Road to Mertis Street, down Mertis to Lakeshore Drive to Missouri and back to the Fairgrounds.

Entry fees for the parade are $35. Call (318) 635-5686 or 426-8081 for more information.

  • The Krewes of Apollo and Femmes Mystique are also hosting Bals on Saturday night, Go HERE for more information on those events.
