MARDI GRAS 2009!



It's that time of year when revelry is taken to the extreme in the great state of Louisiana.

Partying is encouraged, drinking in excess is the norm, flashing body parts is not unusual and collecting hundreds of beads is a badge of honor ....


Yes it's MARDI GRAS time!!!

FRIDAY, JANUARY 30TH


7 pm: Krewe of Akewa Bal V @ Holiday Inn-Bossier City

Doors open at 7 pm, Presentation at 8 pm. Entertainment by Gator Dilla. Hors d'oeuvres and cash bar. Tickets are $50 in advance, $60 at the door. Call (318) 780-5211 for more information.




SATURDAY, JANUARY 31ST


7 pm: Krewe of Gemini Grand Ball @ Bossier Civic Center

Live music by Johnny Earthquake and the Moondogs. Open Bar. Admission is $75. Call 469-1568 for more information.






FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 6TH


6 pm: Krewe of Cotton Country Ball @ Belcher Community Center (Church St., Belcher)

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 7TH



11:30 am - Woman's Department Jazz Brunch @ Woman's Department Club

This event will include the presentation of Kings and Queens in the gala second-line dance parade, a brunch, and music by Timeless Tunes. Tickets are $25. Reservations are due by February 5th. Call 222-4286 for more information. The Club is located at 802 Margaret Place.




1 pm: Springhill Main Street Mardi Gras Parade on Main

This year's parade theme is "Hot, Hot, Hot!" This parade begins at the mall, travels down South Main Street, goes North to City Park and returns down First Street. This event is free. To get more information, become a vendor or participate in the parade, call (318) 539-5699.




1 pm: Krewe of Cotton Country Parade in Belcher

This event is free. To participate in the parade or get more info, call (318) 655-2447.




6 pm: Krewe of Elders Event @ American Legion

"Stepping Out With the Elders" will feature live entertainment, a raffle, a buffet and a cash bar. Tickets are $40 in advance and $45 at the door. The American Legion is located at 5315 South Lakeshore Drive (on Cross Lake). For event or ticket info, call (318) 635-4901 or 464-4275.





6 pm: Krewe of Aquarius Parade in Logansport

This parade starts at Logansport High (on Hwy. 5) and ends at Riverfront Park. Float winners will be announced and receive trophies at the end of the parade. For more info, call (318) 464-8850 or 617-9363.





7 pm: Krewe of Dionysos Grand Bal @ Natchitoches Events Center

SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 8TH


5 pm: Krewe of Atlas Bal @ American Legion

FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 13TH


6 pm: Centaur Float Loading Party @ Centaur Den

Come out and see the floats get prepped for the parade and enjoy food, drinks and music. Dress is casual and the event is FREE. The Den is located at 948 N. Market St. in Shreveport. Call (318) 798-6341 for more information.





SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 14TH






4:30 pm - Krewe of Centaur Parade in Downtown Shreveport


This year's theme is "Centaur Says It All." The parade will begin on Clyde Fant Parkway, travel down Shreveport-Barksdale Hwy and end on Preston Ave. For more info, call (318) 798-6341.






THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 19TH


6:30 pm - Krewe of Arepo Grand Bal @ Horseshoe Riverdome

The theme of this year's Bal is "60 Years of Brilliance", paying tribute to Shreveport Opera's 60th anniversary. The event will include dinner, wine and beer, a cash bar, live entertainment and the presentation of all Mardi Gras courts. Tickets are $100 - $500. FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 20TH



5 pm: Krewe of Gemini Float Loading Party @ Gemini Den

Preview the floats before the parade. There will be a cash bar, music and face paiting. This even is Free. The Den is located at 2101 E. Texas St. in Bossier City. Call (318) 469-1568.





7 pm: Krewe of Highland Bal Masque @ Randle T. Moore Center

This year's theme is "British Invasion". The event will include hors d'oeuvres. Dress in formal attire or a costume but you MUST wear a mask. Tickets are $35. The RTM Center is located at 3101 Fairfield Ave. Call (318) 560-7171 for more information.




7 pm: Krewe of Dionysus Pre-Parade Party @ Knights of Columbus (Natchitoches)

7 pm: Krewe of Harambee Bal @ Horseshoe Riverdome

SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 22ND



2 pm: Krewe of Highland Parade (in Highland area of Shreveport)

This parade will start at Byrd High School and roll through the Highland neighborhood. Call (318) 560-7171.







TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 24TH (Fat Tuesday)



6 pm: Krewe of Aesclepius Fat Tuesday Children's Parade @ Louisiana Boardwalk

Royalty will ride in convertibles and floats, wearing costumes and collar pieces. This event is free. Call (318) 573-1542 for more information.




11 pm: Krewe of Aesclepius Bridge Closing Ceremony & Toast @ Texas St. Bridge

A float from the Aesclepius parade will be in the center of the bridge and a float from Centaur and Gemini will be on either side of it ... Champagne will be poured and dispensed to the crowd for tasting. This event is free. Call (318) 573-1542.
