EVENT PICS: MLK & Harambee Parades

Monday was a day of honor for the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Parades were held on both sides of the river this past Saturday (1.17) to commemorate the special day:

In the MLK Neighborhood, residents came from all over the area to join in the celebration. The event began with prayer and song ...

The everyone got ready for a parade!

Bands performed for the crowds ... Including neighborhood school Green Oaks High (pictured below).

The Krewe of Harambee continued the MLK love on Monday (1.19 - the actual Holiday) with an MLK/Mardi Gras parade through downtown Shreveport:

The Krewe was joined by local organizations and social groups (including the brothers of Alpha Phi Alpha, the fraternity of MLK), plus hundreds of residents braving the chilly temperatures to see the parade and catch some beads and candy. The parade was also televised by KPXJ/CW 21.
