SBC 411: LA Young Heroes Award & Cancer Society Scholarship

Nominations sought for LPB’s Louisiana Young Heroes Awards

Louisiana Public Broadcasting and the Rotary Club of Baton Rouge are seeking nominations for the 2009 Louisiana Young Heroes Awards.

The awards honor Louisiana students in grades 4-12 who have excelled in the classroom, made a difference in their community, overcome adversity and inspired others through their deeds.

Students must currently be attending a Louisiana public or private school and can not be older than 18 years old. Home-schooled students may be nominated. Last year’s winners are ineligible for this year’s competition.

Nomination forms may be obtained at all public and private schools and public libraries in the state. They can also be downloaded off the LPB website (www.lpb.org) or obtained by calling 1-800-272-8161, ext. 4211.

Along with the nomination form, nominators should also include letters of recommendation, press clipping and any other materials that would helpmake the case for the nominee. They should not send the originals of any documents because they will not be returned.

The deadline for receiving nominations is Feb. 6th.

The winners will be announced on LPB and WLAE-TV in New Orleans on March 6th. The winners and their families will be honored at a luncheon at the Governor’s Mansion and an awards ceremony in Baton Rouge on April 22nd.

  • For more information, contact Bob Neese or Margaret Schlaudecker at 1-800-272-8161, ext. 4274 or 4276; or e-mail bneese@lpb.org.
