Mardi Gras 2009 has officially begun! The Krewe of Sobek kicked of the SBC's "Carnival" season on Saturday (1.10.09) with a Parade near the Fairgrounds and through a part of Queensborough ...
The young and old braved the cold to party with Sobek and catch some beads and other trinkets.
Fair Park High School's Marching Band (above) as well as BTW's Marching Band (below) were in the house ... (I remember those days, carrying that flag and high-stepping for miles in the name of Mardi Gras ... whoo!!!).
Other participants included local civic groups and social clubs ... Including some car enthusiasts (below).
Those that attended left with smiles, beads, and other goodies. But they probably left with cold toes, ears and fingers as well!!! :-)

Saturday's parade is just the BEGINNING of this year's Mardi Gras parade season. In fact, another African-American Krewe rolls next week.
The Krewe of Harambee will hold its annual parade next Monday, January 19th (which coincides with the MLK Day Celebration).
The day will beging with a breakfast celebrating Dr. King and President-elect Barack Obama. Then the parade will line-up at 2 pm in front of the Municipal Auditorium. If you can't make it out, don't worry -- (most of) it will be televised on KTBS/KPXJ (Channels 3 and 21).
