Music Scholarship Auditions Set

Audition dates for fall 2009 music scholarships have been scheduled by the Music Program at Bossier Parish Community College for March 21, April 25, May 29 and May 30.

Auditions will take place in the Performing Arts Theatre (Building C), room 123 on the BPCC campus and students must call or e-mail to schedule an audition time slot.

Students enrolling in Concert Choir, Concert Band, or Jazz Ensemble are eligible for a music scholarship. Students do not need to be music majors to enroll in the ensembles or receive a music scholarship, but an audition is required to receive a music scholarship. Music scholarships are full-tuition scholarships that cover the cost of tuition. They do not cover fees or books.

Last year the BPCC Music Program awarded more than 20 full-tuition music scholarships to area students. BPCC is the only public institution in the Shreveport/Bossier metropolitan area that offers the Associate of Arts Degree in Music. For more information, call (318) 678-6146 or e-mail mhart@bpcc.edu.

EnCana Announces College Scholarships

EnCana Oil & Gas (USA) has announced its 2009 College Scholarship Program. The program encourages high school seniors who are pursuing a degree in engineering, geology or geophysics at a four-year university, to contact their high school counselor to apply for the scholarships. The scholarships can also be applied at a two-year college, including technical or trade schools related to the oil and gas industry, such as Production Technology, Heavy Equipment Operator or Land Administration.

One scholarship of up to $2,500 per year, for up to four years, is awarded annually to one graduating student from high schools within EnCana's areas of operations. Eligible schools in Caddo and Bossier for 2009 include Airline High School and Northwood High School.

High school seniors who have demonstrated a solid academic record, and community involvement, and plan on being a full-time student are eligible to apply. Individual school districts will review applications and select recipients. The application deadline is April 1. Students should contact their high school guidance counselors for an application.

The scholarship award is given directly to the student and can be used for any college-related financial need, including tuition and fees, textbooks, and rent. For more information about EnCana's High School Scholarship Program, contact Mary Anthony at (318) 210-1736 or manthony@pure-brand.com.
