EVENT ALERTs: A Gospel Celebration, A Legendary Tribute & A Blues Festival

Three musical events are set for this weekend ... each offering a little something different from the rest. So no matter what genre you're into, one of these is sure to entertain ... Check them out:

ON FRIDAY:

Gospel great FRED HAMMOND will be the special guest performer during the 17th Annual Church Anniversary at Praise Temple Full Gospel Cathedral.

This event is FREE, but you may want to get there early to make sure you have a seat. The show starts at 7 pm.

The anniversary celebration is in conjunction with the church's Young Adult Ministry (YAM) Conference. There are events scheduled for several days ...

• On THURSDAY there's a special guest pastor providing the Word


• On SATURDAY the YAM will host a Jazz Night & Open mic, and


• On SUNDAY, the congregation will receive the word from guest speaker Apostle John T. Abercrombie (from Truth and Deliverance International Church in Chicago, IL)

ON SATURDAY:

The Southern University at Shreveport Foundation will host its 5th Annual Cotton Club Gala.

This year's theme is entitled, "Nat King Cole Legendary Singer"... paying special tribute to the late great Nat King Cole, and featuring a host of songs made famous by Mr. Cole. The show will also feature singing, dancing, delicious food, fine beverages and a silent auction.

The Master/Mistress of Ceremonies will be Ron Young and Najahe Hall of KSLA Ch. 12.

Tickets are $100 each. All proceeds benefit the Foundation's Scholarship program.

ON SUNDAY:

Blues legend Marvin Sease (pictured above) is among half a dozen performers who'll be hitting the stage for the SHREVEPORT BLUES FESTIVAL. The festival will be held this Sunday, March 29th at the CenturyTel Center.

Also performing: Mel Waiters, Sir Charles Jones, Shirley Brown, Ms. Jodie, Floyd Taylor and Wilson Meadows.
