SBC 411: SCDA Hosts Holiday Open House + Churches Help The Homeless



Sickle Cell Association Hosts "Holiday Open House"


The Sickle Cell Disease Association of America's Northwest Louisiana Chapter will hold a Lifeshare Blood Drive "Holiday Open House" on Tuesday, December 23rd from 10:30 am to 3:00 pm at 3658 Judson Street.

This event is in conjunction with their Annual Holiday Food Drive for children and their families who have sickle cell disease or the sickle cell trait.

The public is invited to come and donate blood, bring a canned good or cash donation, and visit the Sickle Cell Service Center and meet the staff.

There will be a continuous video available for viewing on sickle cell disease and what can be done to help "Break the Sickle Cycle." General information on sickle cell disease and trait will be also be presented.

Local Churches Feed The Needy For The Hollidays


Some church members and volunteers at local soup kitchens will spend their time preparing and serving hot meals to area homeless and indigent persons during the holidays.

The Avenue Baptist Church will feed about 200 people, starting at Noon on Christmas Eve. The church is located at 1600 Peabody Street.

On Christmas Day, the First United Methodist Church will provide its "Love Feast" for 500 to 600 needy people. The church is located at the head of Texas Street in downtown Shreveport. Youth members will hand out blankets and socks to persons who show up for the meals. Participants are also given fruit baskets and toys for children in need.

On December 26th, the Hospitality House will prepare holiday meals for more than 300 people. The house is located at 317 Pete Harris Drive.
