It's hard to believe that we're almost halfway through December ... which means there are only a few weeks left until the new year!!!

Movies and Moonbeams

When: 7, 7:45, 8:30, and 9:15 p.m.

Where: American Rose Center, 8877 Jefferson Paige Road, Shreveport.

Featuring: Christmas in Roseland and the Robinson Film Center presents the holiday classic "How the Grinch Stole Christmas," as a part of the evening's activities at Christmas in Roseland. Visitors are encouraged to dress warmly and bring blankets for the outdoor presentation. Show times will be 7, 7:45, 8:30, and 9:15 p.m.

2008 Holiday Affair on the Red

Where: Sci-Port: Louisiana's Science Center, 820 Clyde Fant Memorial Parkway, Shreveport.
Featuring: A full festive grown up fete' with all the trimmings, including a buffet, cash bar, heavy hors d' oeuvres, desserts and libations with holiday flair. Musical entertainment provided by Intuition, Karaoke Karols, holiday photoes, and a full run of Sci-Port's galleries and Space Center.
Admission: $30, advance; $35, day of party. RSVP deadline for advance tickets is Dec. 10.

Christmas In The Sky 2008 — Shaken ... Not Stirred

When: 7 p.m.-3 a.m. Dec. 13.

Where: Harrah's Louisiana Downs, 8000 E. Texas St., Bossier City.

Featuring: Christmas In The Sky is the biennial gala benefit for Shreveport Regional Arts Council featuring food, beverages, entertainment, a live and silent auction with 800 items donated by businesses and artists from all over the country. Proceeds will be used to raise funds for important community arts programs.

Holiday Christmas Buffet Reception

'Santa's Fun Run' Charity car Cruise & Poker Run

When: 10 a.m.

Where: Sonic Drive-In, 3057 E. Texas St., Bossier City.

Featuring: Northwest Louisiana Car Club Council invites all car, truck and motorcycle clubs and individuals to celebrate the holidays by helping the community. Participants should plan to bring one item or more to donate to each of the three stops. Stops will include family Services of Bossier City, KWKH, and the Shreveport-Bossier Rescue Mission. Each participant will receive a card at each stop and the best five poker hands will win a door prize.

12th Annual Merry Berry Christmas Celebration

'Carols and Classics'

Featuring: The combined Circuit Riders and Chancel Choirs, along with various orchestral instruments, will present a cantata of traditional Christmas music. The nursery will be available.

'Celebrate The Season' Benefit Concert

When: 7 p.m. Dec. 15.

Where: Christ United Methodist Church, 1204 Crabapple Drive, Shreveport.

Featuring: The Christ United Methodist Church Chancel Choir and guest singers from the First United Methodist Church and St. Joseph Catholic Church, will join narrators Kermit Polling, Anne Gremillion, and soloists Margaret Williams Jones, and Seva May, to present the Shreveport-Bossier Rescue Mission benefit concert.

Admission: a love offering will be taken for the Shreveport-Bossier Rescue Mission.

Radio City Christmas Spectacular

Holiday Puppet Show

When: 7 p.m. Dec. 16.

Where: Shreve Memorial Library Hamilton/South Caddo Branch, 2111 Bert Kouns Industrial Loop, Shreveport.

Featuring: Puppet Wise Productions will perform the holiday puppet show, "Snowbound In The Bayou." Sponsored by the Friends of the Shreve Memorial Library.

Here are a couple more events of interest this season:



Zwolle Christmas Festival

The second annual Zwolle Christmas Festival will be held Friday, Dec. 19th on the Zwolle Festival Grounds.

Businesses and residents have been asked to participate in the decorating and lighting competition and judging that will take place Dec. 15-16. Winners and prizes will be announced at the festival.

On festival day, events will kick off at 5 p.m. with a parade through downtown that will include Santa Claus and community leader Samuel Cross, who has been selected as grand marshal.
Choirs and bands will perform on stage beginning at 6 p.m. Arts and craft and food booths will be set up, and children can have their photos taken with Santa. The festival will conclude with a fireworks display about 9 p.m.

Miss Merry Christmas Kristian Lewis, who was crowned Nov. 22, will reign over the festivities.
Festival T-shirts will be sold as a fundraiser for the event.

Barnwell center plans holiday events

The Barnwell Garden & Art Center has lined up several holiday events in December.

The Friends of the Barnwell Center will present "White on White: A Winter Season Juried Exhibition of the Many Hues and Shades of White" through Dec. 31. Admission is free.

The center will offer extended hours from 5-8 p.m. for free Holiday Open Houses on Tuesday and Dec. 16, 18 and 23. Refreshments will be served.

Santa will visit the center at 10 a.m. Dec. 20 to hear children's wish lists and for photos.

Reservations are required for this event by calling (318) 673-7703. Deadline is Dec. 15 and admission is $15 for one child and $5 for each additional child.

The center is located at 601 Clyde Fant Memorial Parkway, Shreveport.
