All was quiet on the Music Front last week ... kicking off Black Music Month withOUT a bang.
But this week, things are back to normal and getting things started is one of my favorite artists (and actors), MOS DEF.
M.D. is releasing THE ECSTATIC Today (6.09) .. his 5th solo album. The New Danger (released in 2004) was a flop (in my opinion) and another album (True Magic) was quietly releasted in 2006 ... so a lot of fans are waiting for the REAL Mos Def to stand up. And from what I've heard from this new album, he's back on track.

ON THE RELEASE LIST FOR THE REST OF THE MONTH:
June 16th: New stuff from the legendary SNOOP, neo-soul newbie LAURA IZIBOR, and old school crooner WILL DOWNING.
June 23rd: On the calendar for release are offerings from Southern favorites, LIL BOOSIE AND GUCCI MANE; plus a SOLO project from GUCCI MANE; a new album from old-heads DEAD PREZ; and on the R&B side, new stuff from GINUWINE and blast-from-the-past AL B. SURE!
and on June 30th ... the only release listing is for JOE BUDDEN, but I SWEAR this same album (Mood Muzik, Vol. 2) was supposed to have already been released.
But AS YOU KNOW (if you're a music lover) ... things change on a daily basis .... so don't shoot the messenger!! :)
THIS MONTH IS THE BEST MONTH TO BUY BLACK MUSIC ...Since we're celebrating BLACK MUSIC MONTH most stores have CDs on sale for $10 or less all month (including NEW RELEASES) ... so if you're needing to re-stock your music, now's the time!!
LATER THIS SUMMER ...
I think the most anticipated album this year would have to be MAXWELL'S BlackSummers'Night.
Of course, AMAZON.COM won't let you sample it ... but on YOUTUBE there are HELLA bootleg videos of performances of some of the new songs from shows Max did earlier this year.
He's slated to perform July 4th at the ESSENCE MUSIC FESTIVAL (along with Robin Thicke and Anita Baker). Ya girl WILL be in the building!! and I can't WAIT. And that following Tuesday, I will have my copy of that CD (and a review to match it!) ...
