EVENT PICS: "Crunk 4 Christ" @ WODOM

I know what you're thinking from the title ... WHAT??? But I stumbled upon this event Saturday evening, after an invite from a friend ... (shout out to PJ) ... and I must say, I was kind of skeptical myself ...

But after a few mintues inside the Word of Deliverance Outreach Ministries (aka WODOM) on W. 70th Street (near Turner Elem/Middle), I felt right at home ... eased by the casual dress code, the warm greetings and the explosive gospel music!


CRUNK 4 CHRIST is part of the Youth Ministry at this church and is a vessel to guide young people to Christ ... and for those who are already in Christ .. foster their spirituality through non-traditional praise ...


You won't hear any old-folk spirituals or operatic compositions in this building. During my visit we heard from the GodStar Poetry Team (wassup Scooter!), gospel rapper Catalyst, an AMAZING group called Prosperity (who could rival one of Kirk Franklin's choirs ANY day!), and even a member of the nationally-known group Zie'l (who did an tear-jerking rendition of Kirk Franklin's "Love") ...

Along with the outstanding music and musicians, there was a casual fashion show ... and of course, a selection from the Word.

But most of all, it felt like a celebration. A time to rejoice and praise Him. A time to come together with other believers and just let your hair hang down without an restriction. You can jig to Catalyst's music ... or "stomp" to Prosperity, give snaps to Scooter or just sway to beat of the church musicians.

Getting Crunk 4 Christ is not such a bad thing when you think about ... I'm sure they get crunk in heaven too .... and praise and worship for the Creator could never be a bad thing ...
