EVENTS OF INTEREST: The Outsiders, a Chili Cook-Off, and Men's Health Screening


'The Outsiders' performance to help Magnet High Drama Department

The Caddo Magnet High School Drama Department will presents "The Outsiders" by S.E. Hinton at 7 p.m. Wednesday through Friday in the Ran Kiper Performing Arts Center at Caddo Magnet High School, 1601 Viking Drive, in Shreveport.

A silent auction to benefit the drama department will take place Wednesday and Friday.

Tickets are $5 for students and $10 for adults in advance, and $6 and $12, respectively, at the door. For tickets, call (318) 424-4822.




Chili cookoff to benefit local law enforcement

The Red River Desk and Derrick Club will host a chili cookoff Thursday to help by bulletproof vests for local law enforcement agencies.

The Red River Chili Cook Off will run from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Festival Plaza in Downtown Shreveport. A $5 admission ticket will include live entertainment.

Local celebrity judges will be on hand to name winners.

Free health screenings for men Saturday

Men can receive free health screenings and hear informational talks at a Men's Health Day Seminar and Screening from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, November 15th at the Southern Hills Recreation Center, 1002 Bert Kouns Industrial Loop in Shreveport.

Featured speakers are Rosevelt Jacobs with the Department of Kinesiology and Health Sciences at LSUS and Dr. Benjamin Li of the Department of Surgery at LSU Health Sciences Center-Shreveport.

Other speakers will talk about high blood pressure, colorectal health, erectile dysfunction and alternatives for men and diabetes.

Participants can undergo screenings for cholesterol, glucose, kidney disease, prostate cancer, dental health and vision.

The event includes a free continental breakfast and lunch.

Feist-Weiller Cancer Center and the Louisiana Cancer Control Partnership are sponsoring the event.
