The Cowboys came to the SBC Saturday night .... and no, I'm not talking about the ones from Dallas. These cowboys come in different shapes, color and gender ... don't have an NFL contract, and ride horses instead of passing the pigskin.
The CenturyTel Center was packed Saturday night as the RCA National Black Rodeo Finals entertained the masses.
It gave some hard-working cowboys and cowgirls a chance to strut their stuff and compete for prizes and bragging rights ... and it gave SBC residents an excuse to go shopping for western gear :)
Donned in cowboy hats, cowboy boots and shirts of various colors, both the entertainers and the entertainees had a ball:
Participants competed in events like barrel racing, roping, and bullriding ...
And contrary to redneck belief, even though this is called the Black Rodeo ... Brothaz and Sistaz aren't the only particpants/competitors:
I had to check some backwards-thinking, damn near racist, people on the ShreveportTimes website. At first I wondered why the website bothered to post a "traffic advisory" warning motorists to "avoid the area" ... but after reading the comments about the advisory, I turned my attention toward comments like "they claim to want things equal but don't know what they want" and "why a black rodeo? there's no white NBA" ... UGH ... Racism is soooo not cute.
But I digress ...
I didn't get to attend the Black Rodeo but I heard it was a sold-out show that lasted well into the night. Sounds like fun was had by all.
