SBC 411: Self-Defense Classes, Foreign Language Classes, and SPAR Summer Camp
Bossier Police Offering Self-Defense Class For Women
The Bossier City Police Department will offer a women’s self-defense class from 6-9 pm on April 21st at the Bossier City Police Training Center (1549 East Texas Street).
The class is open to females 14 years of age and older. Those under the age of 17 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
The class is hands on and requires physical participation from the attendees. Space is limited to 20 participants on a first come first serve basis.
Pre-registration is required and a waiver of liability must be completed prior to the start of class. Call (318) 741-8351 or (318) 741-8349 to register.
The class is being conducted by the BCPD’s Community Relations/Crime Prevention Division. The division offers an array of programs and services that are free to the public including: Business Armed Robbery Prevention and Awareness, Business and Home Security Checks, “Fatal Vision” Drinking and Driving Awareness, Fingerprinting Identification for Children, Louisiana Motor Vehicle Laws and Driving Safety, Neighborhood Watch Programs, Personal Safety. Stranger Danger Awareness for Children, Police Department Tours.

Library Offering New Language Program
People interested in learning to speak a new language have an opportunity to use a new, free online language-learning system, called Mango Languages, at Shreve Memorial Library.
The library is offering courses in Spanish, Japanese, French, Italian, Mandarin Chinese and ESL for Spanish speakers for its patrons.

SPAR Announces Summer Camp Dates
Shreveport Public Assembly and Recreation's summer camps will run Monday through Friday from June 1 to Aug. 14.
They will start at 8 a.m. and end at 6 p.m. at Shreveport's 15 community centers. They are offered for children ages 6-11 and teens 12-17.
Admission is free, but registration is required. Applications may be picked up at each community center or at http://www.myspar.org/.
Registration starts today for Shreveport residents and May 11 for nonresidents. Participants must provide their own lunch. Some field trips are "pay as you go."

Exotic Cat Sanctuary Now Open
The Yogie and Friends Exotic Cat Sanctuary in Frierson, LA, is now open for the season. The sanctuary was set to open last week but was postponed because of the rain-soaked grounds.
Admission is $5 for ages 13 and up; $4 for ages 4 to 12. Yogie and Friends is located at 128 Fob Lane in Frierson, which is off of Stonewall-Frierson Road. Call (318) 795-0455 for information or visit www.yogieandfriends.org
