Highway 80 work to continue two months
Motorists who have noticed construction on East Texas Street/U.S. Highway 80 in Bossier City likely will see it for a few more months.
Roadwork should continue through mid-May, according to the state Department of Transportation and Development.
The 1.4-mile stretch runs from Benton Road to Old Minden Road. Benton & Brown, the company that won the $1.4 million contract, is laying new asphalt.
Cinco de Mayo Fiesta Seeks Vendors
Cinco de Mayo Inc., a nonprofit organization dedicated to raising funds for academic scholarships for Hispanic youth in the Ark-La-Tex, is seeking vendors for the 2009 fiesta.
The event will take place May 2-3 in Festival Plaza in downtown Shreveport.

Council on Aging Offers Trip to Vermont

SPAR Announces Youth Fitness Program
Shreveport Public Assembly and Recreation will offer YOUth Fit from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays June 2 to July 30 at the Stoner Marina Boat Launch Pavilion off Clyde Fant Memorial Parkway.
The mission of YOUth Fit is to provide youth with skill and fitness instruction for successful cross-country or long distance running. YOUth Fit focuses on boys and girls ages 7-18.
Shelly Armstrong, assistant professor and chair of the Department of Health & Exercise Science and head cross-country coach at Centenary College, will serve as program coordinator.
Registration fee is $20. Space is limited and registration is on a first-come, first-serve basis.

5K Run/Walk to Honor Fallen Police Officers
Entries are being sought for the 14th annual Dean/Williams 5K and Fun Run slated for April 14 at Clyde Fant Memorial Parkway at Lake Street.
The event is in memory of fallen Shreveport police officers Ron Dean and Dewayne Williams, who died in the line of duty in 1992 and 1993 respectively.
The 5K run/walk will begin at 8:30 a.m. and will include a team competition. Two-person teams will run 1.5 miles, with the top three teams taking home awards.
Registration is $15. Entry forms for the race are available at Sports Spectrum, 7607 Youree Drive.
