NEW RELEASES: Day 26 & Badu + Notorius on DVD & Indie Films at the RFC

The fellaz of DAY 26 are not only back on our TV sets ... they're back on the store shelves this week. The winners of Making the Band, Season 3, release their sophomore album Forever and a Day today ... and are hoping for the same success as the last one (i.e. #1 status but with a LOT more units sold so they can get platinum status) ..

If you've been keeping up with the show, there's a lot of Bitchassness this season ... Some are wondering how they even finished an album with the bandmates at each other's throats nearly every episode.

But somehow they managed to pull it together and record 15 tracks ...for the fans.

As you may remember, I completely gushed about the self-titled debut album ... (I still wear the CD out lol).

Well, this new release still has the New Edition/Boyz II Men-style vocals that we've grown to love ... and plenty of the mushy, sappy and even SEXY tracks we adored on the first album ... but this time they've ushered in a lot more club hits .... this time they got a little CRUNK with it.

The first single "Imma Put It On Her" reflects the new life the band is living and breathing ... and is sure to be a success just like the first.

Listen to samples of the album HERE. It's $10 at most retails stores this week ... and go to http://www.day26online.com/ to see more videos (including a video of Rob singing "Knocks My Off My Feet -- by fan request), pics and upcoming appearances.

Also out today (fresh out of the UK) is the totally-expensive-but-probably-worth-it Import of ERYKAH BADU's new LIVE CD. If you remember the first Badu Live, you know this is probably going to be JUST as fiyah.

The album includes live performances of Honey and Healer from her New Amerykah CD (released last year) as well as covers of classics and unheard tracks.

  • You can order your copy on Amazon.com by going HERE. (Or look for it in stores).

OUT ON DVD:

Hip Hop Legend NOTORIUS BIG's biopic Notorius is now on DVD for future generations to enjoy. The movie made big splash at the box office when it came out this past January, taking in over $20 million its opening weekend and grossing over $36 million total.

Besides introducing a new generation of rap fanatics to one of the GOATs ... the movie made a star out of aspiring rapper Jamal Woolard ... and made us remember why we loved Biggie so much.

Go get your DVD! Like NOW! :)

LATER THIS WEEK:

Some unique indie short-films are showing at the Robinson Film Center (RFC) this Thursday.

I say unique because they're like Craig Brewer movies -- mostly Caucasian crew ... mostly Black American cast ... (lol). Both were shot right here in the SBC (and directed by/starring locals!).

Here's the info:

UP IN THE AIR: The Regional Filmmaker's Spotlight presents Shreveport-based filmmaker J.B. Jones' dramatic short Up in the Air, followed by a Q&A with the filmmaker, cast, and crew. The film follows a group of high school seniors as they struggle to cope with a series of life-changing events - some intensely personal and some global - all of which transpire over the course of one fateful day.

Thursday, April 16, 7:30 P.M.
FREE ADMISSION
Directed by J.B. Jones
Starring Jenifer French, Robby Page, Tonya Perkins, Zac Rogers

YOU BETTER RUN: David Beier's short film You Better Run follows a fast-paced day in the life of a young man who mistakenly causes a major inconvenience for a local drug kingpin, unknowingly putting his life at risk. Beautifully filmed and edited, You Better Run is a unique offering from a local talent. Admission is free and open to the public. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with the filmmaker, cast, and crew.

Thursday, April 16, 8:30 P.M.
