The 51st Annual GRAMMY Awards were held Sunday night but the industry is still buzzin' about the night's events. As with the inauguration, it's taking me a WHiLE to mull through all the photos and bring you the fashion do's and dont's from the biggest night in music.
Soon I'll have photos from the red carpet, the awards show, and the after parties, so CHECK BACK ...
Til then, check out my rundown of the show HERE. And check out the COMPLETE winners list HERE.
IN RELATED NEWS ...
Though the GRAMMY Awards were a hot topic this past weekend ... as Monday morning rolled around, it seemed the main headline was the drama involving singer Chris Brown and his arrest for felony criminal threats (assault).
I usually don't comment on Celeb news on this blog (even though I love to read about it), but this is one I had to comment on.
I was clueless until I asked someone why CB and Rih didn't perform at the GRAMMYs and someone said he'd been arrested the night before. The story is everywhere from CNN to TMZ and allllll over the blogsphere. TMZ and YBF have been all over the story and so far we know that:
Chris and his (alleged) victim (who has now been named by TMZ as his girlfriend Rihanna) got into a physical altercation (which some say isn't the first time this has happened) in a vehicle on the way home from a party the night before the GRAMMYs.
This (alleged) altercation resulted in someone (who supposedly heard her screams) calling the police; and Rihanna heading to the hospital to be treated for some bruises, bite marks and contusions. Chris Brown ran from the scene of the fight but later turned hiimself in, was booked, given a bail of $50K -- which he posted -- and was released. Now he's being labeled as the new Ike Turner.
So that's the lowdown ... I could sprinkle that entire rundown with ALLEGEDLY and all that journalist/PR/PC/legal jargon but let's be real. He did SOMETHING if he turned himself in ... all we DON'T know is WHAT and WHY.
From what I've read about both of the singers' backgrounds, they both have a history of abuse in their childhood from relatives physically hurting them. Still, that's no excuse for abusing someone or putting UP with the abuse.
Rumors are flying about Chris having a temper and about them having previous altercations ... PLUS some are saying the REASON for the over-the-top fight was that Chris found out Rihanna gave him an STD. I don't know what's what ... but there's no reason to put your hands on someone ... it's as simiple as walking away. Not only to keep your sanity ... but to save your IMAGE and your CAREER.
It appears Wrigley (the makers of DoubleMint Gum, which features CB in a commercial) has now suspsended Chris' campaign until the matter is cleared up.
(Someone pointed out that everyone has forgetten about Kobe Bryant's rape charge, so Chris will be alright too -- and you know what .. that's sad, but probably true.)
I met Chris Brown briefly in 2006 during VMA week in NYC. He seemed like a level-headed, happy person. But as we ALL know, sometimes the nicest person can be a source of conflict ... what's done in the dark always comes to light.
Even if he is the nice-guy I was hoping he was ... whatever turned him into an assault suspect happened long before Saturday night.
I'm also hoping, no matter the REASON for the fight, that both of these rising stars get help. And if their idea of love is some rocky road filled with public fights, senseless rants and bruises and bites, they're wise enough to realize now -- that's nothing like love.
Pray for them both ... and stay tuned ... cuz I have a feeling this is going to get really nasty ...
