Black History Month rolled into it's 2nd week with the annual African-American History Parade.
The parade honored trailblazers in the Black community, including 2008 Olympian and Shreveport native Kendrick Farris and SSG Nathan Tyrone Reed, of Shreveport, who lost his right leg while serving with the U.S. Army's 4th Infantry division in Iraq.
DeSoto Parish District Attorney Richard Johnson served as Grand Marshal, and the parade featured over 200 participants, includes the Krewes of Harambee and Sobek and several marching bands; plus appearances by Ricky Bobby, Shreveport native Hurricane Chris and Innovation.
The event concluded with a battle of the bands at the Municipal Auditorium. Anyone know who won? lol ... And for the first time there was a Black history musical held on Sunday evening at Praise Temple.
Here are some shots from the Parade:

Looks like fun was had by all! I missed the parade in person but caught it on KPXJ/CW 21. Trish and Ed did a great job hosting ... just wish one year they'd cover ALL of the parade (including the Battle of the Bands) ... And go HERE to see the write-up (pre-parade) by the Times.
See ALL the parade pics HERE.
