SOI: Gas Goes Down (Finally!) + Claim Your Check!

I had mixed feelings when I passed by this Valero on Jewella Ave. Saturday afternoon ...

I was excited to see gas WELL below $3.50 a gallon. But I was also upset because I'd just came back from a road trip, during which I paid $3.40-something a gallon to fill up ...

Dang, I should have waited a week or so ...

Then ... just a couple of DAYS after seeing the $3.18 sign ... Today (Monday) I run up on this one at another Valero in South Shreveport ... $2.99 for gas!!! WHOO HOO!!! ... I filled right up!!!

If you want to keep an eye on gas prices, you can always check out www.shreveportgasprices.com ...

(so far the cheapest is at Love's in Greenwood .. at $2.89 per gallon).

If you haven't filed for taxes to get your Economic Stimulus check, the government says:

"Come get your money!"

Tuesday, October 15th
is the last day to file a Federal tax return in order to get your check. Some people don't file an income tax return because they don't make enough, but in order to claim the Stimulus, you must file whether you made $100,000 or $100.

The state's Treasury Department says the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities reports that an estimated 106,000 state residents have yet to claim $1.9 million in stimulus payments — $300 for individuals and $600 for married couples.

The IRS says about 5.6 million Americans nationwide have not filed for $1.7 billion in payments.

In a statement, Treasurer John Kennedy notes that those who don't normally file a tax return — low-income seniors, disabled veterans and individuals with disabilities — must do so in order to get the benefit.
