The Ark-La-Tex Walk from Obesity — an annual event to bring awareness to obesity and raise funds for education, research and treatment — will be held this Saturday, Oct. 11th, at the Bossier Specialty Hospital, 2105 Airline Drive, in Bossier City.
On-site registration begins at 8.30 a.m. followed by the official kickoff at 9 a.m. with the "Rockin' Docs" — a band composed of five area physicians: Drs. Pierce D. Nunley, Ajay Jawahar, George R. Merriman, J. Kevin Netterville and Kenneth Miller.
Registration is free for children 5-12 years old and adults can walk for any donation amount. Full registration with T-shirt and giveaways is $25.
New this year is the Kid's Calorie Carnival. The 1½ mile walk will have several station stops along the way, including exercise and nutrition stations.
The Val Salva band will provide pop-rock music throughout the event.
Sponsorship booth space rentals are still available and range from $100 to $5,000.
For information about sponsorships and grants, contact Katy Merriman, chairman, at (318) 458-2965 or arklatexwalk@bellsouth.net.
