Former Caddo coroner to speak at banquet
Former Caddo Coroner Mairus T. McFarland will be the speaker at the Multicultural Tourism Commission's annual scholarship banquet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday (10/16) at the Clarion Hotel, 1419 E. 70th St. in Shreveport.
The event is a fundraiser for the commission, which provides scholarships to aspiring local students who seek career opportunities in the tourism and hospitality industry.

GSU Alumni Hall of Fame Induction
GRAMBLING — Sixteen Grambling State University alumni will be inducted into the GSU Alumni Hall of Fame at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 17 during the annual homecoming weekend celebration.
The reception, banquet and induction ceremony will be in the university assembly center. The honorees represent the university's academic colleges and athletics.
Talk show host Tom Joyner will be the keynote speaker for the semi-formal annual event. Tickets are $85 each or $165 couple. Tickets for a table of eight for nonprofit groups and organizations are $655 and $1,200 for corporate.

Council on Aging senior health fair to be Oct. 21
MANSFIELD — The DeSoto Council on Aging will host its annual senior health fair from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 21 at the Senior Center Building, 1015 Polk St.
