I went to see Tyler Perry's new film, The Family That Preys, this past weekend. And apparently I wasn't the only one ... Look at the box office numbers:

1. "Burn After Reading," $19.4 million.

2. "Tyler Perry's The Family that Preys," $18.0 million.

3. "Righteous Kill," $16.5 million.

4. "The Women," $10.1 million.

5. "The House Bunny," $4.3 million.

6. "Tropic Thunder," $4.2 million.

7. "The Dark Knight," $4.0 million.

8. "Bangkok Dangerous," $2.4 million.

9. "Traitor," $2.1 million.

10. "Death Race," $2.0 million.

$18 million is not bad for a first weekend.

I won't spoil the movie too much, but let me just say it wasn't as drama-filled as I thought it would be. Nothing like "Why Did I Get Married" or "Daddy's Little Girls" (maybe Tasha Smith needed to be in this movie too lol).

It had its good and bad points but the movie seemed to be drawn out and didn't get to the point quick enough for me.

Plus Rockmond Dunbar played what has to be the most naive brotha in the WORLD. But for once Robin Givens didn't play a golddiggin' whore .. I'm so proud! lol.

Honestly, the best performance in the movie, to me, was by Kathy Bates ... LOVE her! lol.

If you haven't seen it, go check it out .... If you HAVE, tell me what YOU think!

FLASHING FORWARD:

I saw the trailer for Soul Men when I went to see Preys. Soul Men was filmed here in the SBC and stars the late Bernie Mac, Samuel L. Jackson and the late Issac Hayes.

Check out the trailer HERE. (or catch it on YouTube like everyone else lol)

I see different release dates for the film. IMDB says November 14th but other sites say November 7th. So just expect it sometime in the first half of November :)

Another highly anticipated movie coming soon ... Miracle at St. Anna ... directed by my idol -- Spike Lee.

If you've been following, Lee was angry at actor/director Clint Eastwood for not including Black soldiers in two WWII films he made. I guess the best way to get back at someone for not including US is to make a film about US.

Enter: Miracle at St. Anna. Here's the plot (from moviefone.com) :

'Miracle at St. Anna' chronicles the story of four black American soldiers who are members of the US Army as part of the all-black 92nd "Buffalo Soldier" Division stationed in Tuscany, Italy during World War II.

They experience the tragedy and triumph of the war as they find themselves trapped behind enemy lines and separated from their unit after one of them risks his life to save an Italian boy.

Directed by Spike Lee from a screenplay written by James McBride, the author of the acclaimed novel of the same name, the film explores a deeply inspiring, powerful story drawn from true history, that transcends national boundaries, race, and class to touch the goodness within us all. -

The epic Spike Lee Joint stars several up and coming Black actors .. including Derek Luke (of Antwoine Fisher fame) and Michael Ealy (of Barbershop; Halle's ex).

Read more about the film HERE. Check out the trailer HERE. It's in theaters next Friday (September 26th).

you've now been informed ... m
