SBC 411: Tax Day/Obama Day + Voter's Registration

The day has finally come ... Last chance (unless you filed for an extension) to give the Government what they claim they're due ... I mean, to pay your taxes :-)

The best method is the E-File instead of mailing it, but do what you wish. If you still need forms, they're available at the library or online at www.irs.gov.

The IRS website also has some GREAT information, including tips for last minute filers (like my parents lol). Here are a few:

1. E-file your return Don’t miss out on the benefits of e-file. Your tax return will get processed quickly if you use e-file. If there is an error on your return, it will typically be identified and can be corrected right away. E-file is available 24 hours a day. If you file electronically and choose to have your tax refund deposited directly into your bank account, you will have your money in as few as 10 days.

2. Double-check your figures Whether you are filing electronically or by paper, review all the amounts you transferred over from your Forms W-2 or 1099.

3. Choose Direct Deposit To receive your refund quicker, select Direct Deposit and the IRS will deposit your refund directly into your bank account. (And if you're a Turbo Tax user like me, you'll get a debit card this year ... that you can add money too all year long :-)

4. People sending a payment should make the check out to "United States Treasury" and should enclose it with, but not attach it to, the tax return or the Form 1040-V, Payment Voucher, if used. Write your name, address, SSN, telephone number, tax year and form number on the check or money order. Visit IRS.gov for more information on payment options.

5. File an extension Taxpayers who will not be able to file a return by the April 15 deadline should request an extension of time to file. Remember, the extension of time to file is not an extension of time to pay.

** For those needing assistance the Queensborough Neighborhood Association has been helping taxpayers for months and, by appointment, may still be able to get you in between 9 am and 5 pm. Call (318) 635-8100 to get more information (and make sure you have all your paperwork and ID ready!).

IN OTHER NEWS ....

While most of America is finalizing their tax returns, the haters will be busy with their "Tea Parties" ... which are just huge rallies held by crazy people who didn't get their way the last election and want to make President Obama's life a living hell because they have nothing else to do :-)

To counter these vicious attacks on the President and his policies of CHANGE, Obama supporters are calling for fellow supporters to wear Obama shirts all day Thursday to show the haters we BACK BARACK!!!

Put your shirt on and spread the word ....

ALSO ... For those who aren't registered to vote yet (or for those who know people like them), The Caddo Registrar of Voters office will hold a registration all day Thursday at the Shreve Memorial Library Atkins Branch Library (located at 3704 Greenwood Road). Registration is FREE ... and it's your DUTY to vote ... so get registered!!!

HAPPY TAX FILING EVERYONE!!! :-)
