EVENT ALERTs: Somethin' For Everyone This "Mama's Day" Weekend!

Barring bad weather, there's PLENTY to see and do in the SBC this weekend.

The Barksdale Air Show will entertain crowds this weekend. Plus there are LOTS of community events to take the kiddies to --- go HERE to check them out!

The stage-play Blackbird is running at the LSUS Black Box Theatre. Check out The Times' review of the play HERE.


Plus ... the Lead Belly Blues Festival will be taking over Festival Plaza Saturday night:

Tickets are $20 in advance (if you call the toll free number on the flyer) and $30 at the gate.

11:40 a.m. -- Local artist tribute to Lead Belly, with Danny Wilder, Tim Brogan, Ted Lindsay, W.T. Eason and Howlin' Henry.Noon: The Bluebirds, with guitarist Buddy Flett.

1 p.m. -- James Robinson and Jackie Simon.

2 p.m. -- Johnny and Destini Rawls.

3:15 p.m. -- Eddie Shaw and the Wolfgang.

4:40 p.m. -- Kenny Neal Family Reunion.

6:15 p.m. -- Ruthie Foster.

ACROSS THE RIVER (also on Friday night) ...

The brothers of ALPHA PHI ALPHA will be hosting their ICE BOWL Pre-Party at the BIJOU Ultra Wine Bar (formerly McArthur's Steakhouse) in the Red River Entertainment District.

The Alphas are inviting all Greeks, non-Greeks, family and friends out for a night of entertainment and networking. The proceeds from the mixer will help fund their "Involvement in Community Enhancement" programs.

The ICE BOWL is their Old School vs. New School (frat) football game. It will be held on SATURDAY, MAY 9th at Huntington High School, starting at Noon.

SPEAKING OF SATURDAY (AND BIJOU) ... A Mother's Day Crawfish Bowl will take place at the new nightspot on Saturday night.

The event will include all-you-can-eat crawfish, complimentary beverages and wine, and door prizes. Miss MOSA will also be celebrating her birthday that night!

Tickets are $10 and may be purchased at Boss Man's Barber World, Tight Edge Barber Shop, and M & M. Admission can also be paid at the door.

IN ANOTHER PART OF DOWNTOWN SHREVEPORT .... Ladies will be the focus of a special event at the Municipal Auditorium.

SHREVEPORT NIGHTLIFE will present "The Official Ladies Night: Red Carpet Edition" on Saturday (May 9th), beginning at 9 pm.

You MUST dress to impress to get in the building ... Rip The Runway attire is strongly suggested. There will be cash prizes for the hottest models/outfits. Admission is $10 ALL NIGHT for the LADIES.

And as always, the classy (and much cheaper) alternative on Saturday is SOPHISTICATION at Adam's Lounge. Doors open at 9 pm ... and DJ Marle-Mar will be there "pleasin' the crowd" :)
