EVENT PICS: Hip Hop Cafe'

The place was nearly packed last Saturday at Just a Little Cafe, where the S.T.A.R. Group presented the first ever HIP HOP CAFE. It was a unique event for a city known nationwide as Ratchet Central.

As GoDJ Q-Ball spinned, there wasn't much Lil' Wayne or Boosie in the playlist. You could hear anything from Tribe Called Quest to The Geto Boys. As chatter and music filled the air, you could see people from all ages, all walks of life ... some regular patrons, some rap artists and some industry reps ... but all were there to celebrate Hip-Hop.

After an open-mic session, host Young Nisa (of KMJJ) and Q-Ball took the crowd on a Coast 2 Coast musical Hip Hop tour. Blasting hits from the East, West, Midwest and of course the Dirty South.

Then followed performances by SMUVE & EK (from the Grambling/Jonesboro area) and BILLY BROADWAY. Local rapper DOM DIDY and his 1st CLASS ENTERTAINMENT GROUP were present but a technical glitch prevented them from performing ...

Also blessing the mic during Open Mic session before and after the show were: POETIC X, THE STORYTELLER, K.I.N.G., RICKY LATT, TDT, and singer MICHAEL BOWDEN with a comical remake of Erykah Badu's "Tyrone" called "Monique" :)

You can see clips of some of the performances at www.youtube.com/mahoganimedia.
