SBC 411: Cultural Events for All to Enjoy! :-)



AND THE EVENTS KEEP COMING!!!! :-) Along with the festivals and the fun of nightlife, the SBC is offering a lot of cultural fare this weekend .... Most of which doesn't cost a thing and is open to all ages .... CHECK IT OUT:





LSU EXHIBIT: The LOUISIANA STATE EXHIBIT MUSEUM is hosting the "LSU: Building an American Renaissance" exhibit, now through April 25th. Patrons are invited to view this unique exhibit which assessess the history of LSU's architecture focusing on the campus' 18 original buildings.

Museum hours are: Monday thru Fridays, 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Saturdays & Sundays, noon-4:00 p.m. Call about admission.






SHOPPING FOR A CAUSE: Saturday is the last day to attend the Junior League Market (Formerly known as Trends and Traditions). This one-stop shopping experience features some 100 merchants from across the country with the finest home decor, jewelry, clothing, children's items, gourmet food, and much more. Saturday hours are 10 am to 4 pm and admission is only $5.




BOOK SALE: The 2010 Friends of Shreve Memorial Library Book Sale will be held Saturday and Sunday (April 17th and 18th) in the basement of the Main Library, downtown.

Sale times are: Saturday, April 17: 9:00 a.m. to Noon: members-only sale (you may become a member at the door for $5 annual membership dues) Noon to 5 p.m. The sale is open to the general public. Sunday, April 18: 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.

CELEBRATION OF CARING: Community Renewal International will present the Celebration of Caring event Saturday at 10 am. This event will celebrate caring individuals and organizations throughout our community. Entertainment provided via local high school bands and dance lines. Food, refreshments, games, provided by Celebration of Caring sponsor Red Ball Oxygen. Open to the public.





ARTSPACE FAMILY DAY: At Noon Saturday, artspace will host FAMILY DAY with guest artist, Marjorie Kouns. Kouns will teach a "Make and Take" Family Seminar as part of artspace's monthly Family Fun series!

Participating families will make a decorative lampshade for their home. The cost to participate is $25 per family and includes the lampshade and art materials to decorate / paint it.

Marjorie Kouns, a native of Shreveport who currently resides in New York, has become known around the world for the impact her artworks have on communities. SHADES OF SHREVEPORT will turn the 700 block of Texas Street into an illumination of Spring. Whimsical lampshades, 6' to 8' tall, will rise above 20 lightglobes on the lightposts lining the street. The lampshades will reflect the colors of Spring and will include scenes from Shreveport.





GOOD EATS: The Northwest Louisiana Wiley Alumni Club will hold A TASTE OF WILEY at the Union Masonic Temple (5632 Hearne Ave.) Sunday, April 18th, at 2 pm. Admission is $10. Door prizes will be given away. Proceeds will benefit Wiley College.
