EVENTS OF INTEREST: Healthy Holiday Eating, Helping The Homeless and Letters to Santa


Healthy holiday eating topic of lunch event


LSU AgCenter will have its next Lunch and Ag Discovery session at noon tomorrow (Wednesday) at its Red River Research Station in Bossier City.

Vicky Chesser, an LSU AgCenter registered dietitian, will present "Keeping Holiday Traditions Without Tipping the Scale." The session will focus on tips to have a healthier holiday season

Chesser will offer tips on things that can be done to prevent overindulging at parties and during the holiday season.

Cost for the light lunch is $5. Reservations are limited to 50. Call (318) 741-7430.

Operation Stand Down


In recognition of National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week, HOPE for the Homeless and Overton Brooks VA Medical Center will have a one stop shop for the homeless.

Services are to include food, clothing, hair cuts, healthcare, employment, housing, legal, education, physicals, vision screenings, oral screenings, vital signs, glucose monitoring, nutrition counseling, mental health and substance abuse screenings, hot meals, and HIV testing.

This event will be held at the Louisiana State Fair Grounds (3701 Hudson St.) from 9 am to 4 pm both Friday and Saturday. Call (318) 990-5249 for more information.




SPAR to take letters for 'Santa Express'



Shreveport Public Assembly and Recreation will help kids get their letters to Santa via the "Santa Express" Mail Service, which will be available Nov. 24 through Dec. 19.

Drop letters, with the return address, in one of the "Santa Express" mailbox locations in the lobby of Government Plaza and Dillard's Court in Mall St. Vincent and get a reply directly from Saint Nick himself.

Home Remodeling Design Course - Thursday Nov. 20th (5:30 - 7 pm)

  • Professional home designer Jeb Breithaupt, owner of JEB Design/Build Inc., will show the latest trends in home remodeling and design. PRICE: $45.



Scuba Certification Course - Thursdays beginning Nov. 20th (6-9 pm)


  • Instructors for this course will be Red River Scuba Staff. Red River Scuba will provide scuba equipment for course. Class is limited to 20 participants. PRICE: $299.



ACT Prep Course

Saturday, Nov. 22nd (9 am - 4 pm)

  • This course will cover all sections of the ACT including English, reading, math, and science as well as incorporating test-taking strategies.
