Tourist bureau to sponsor video contest

Calling all aspiring filmmakers. The Shreveport-Bossier Convention and Tourist Bureau is taking entries for its "Show Us Your Shreveport-Bossier" video promotion.

The purpose of the contest is to raise awareness of the Louisiana's Other Side brand as well as instilling pride in the community, bureau President Stacy Brown stated in a news release.

All video entries must be uploaded to YouTube.com and, upon approval based on specified terms, the tourist bureau will embed those videos on the promotion Web site at www.Shreveport-Bossier.org. Video entries may be submitted through June 30.

Once all the videos have been uploaded and the video entry submission date ends, the public will decide who has the best video. Voting will run through July 17.

After all votes have been tallied, the tourist bureau, along with its partner, the Robinson Film Center, will host a red carpet premiere event to showcase the best videos in the Robinson Film Center's Willis-Knighton Theater at 7:30 p.m. July 23.

The top finalists will be recognized, and the winner will receive a check for $2,500. This event is open to the public.

To coincide with the promotion, the Robinson Film Center will host a free workshop — How to Make Your Video Better — at 5:30 p.m., June 7.

PARTY PICS: Black and White Party @ the RFC

Friday night (5.29) was my first time visiting the Robinson Film Center, so I didn't quite know what to expect. I was supporting a friend's (and taking pics) for the Mt. Olive Baptist Church's BLACK AND WHITE PARTY (hosted by the Youth Ministry) ...

The event was held in an upstairs room ... and had food ...

And more food ...

And plenty of hungry people to enjoy it!!! :)

Young professionals from the church (and some from other church homes) all came out to support the Christian event ...

Providing entertainment for the night was an AWESOME local band INTUITION (a group packed with amazing -- and some YOUNG -- musicians, most working their way through college) ...

This young lady had me do a double-take when she channeled Chrisette Michele ... (She's a vocal performance student at GSU).

The band had us all movin' when they played a second-line song ... Some guests grabbed napkins and hit the dance floor!

The event was held in a very classy place, had some great food (and a very nice, professional staff), and was filled with fun people. What more could you ask for??? :)

No word yet on if this event will happen again ... but as always, when I KNOW, you'll know!!!
